Axicon Barcode Verifiers

Designing and developing Axicon barcode verifiers since the late 1980s intended for general use in artwork departments, print rooms or on the shop floor. Axicon was the first company to use LEDs (used to illuminate the barcode) with CCD-based sensors to receive the image before it is analysed.

All Axicon Barcode Verifiers are designed to reduce the affect of ambient light on the accuracy of the readings, and will not damage the barcode being verified.  The positions of the LEDs and the CCD-based sensor are fixed to make sure that the correct angle of illumination is used, and this is one reason why the verifiers produce consistent and repeatable accurate results.

The international ISO/IEC standards for barcode print quality and barcode verifiers stipulate how each size of barcode should be assessed, and Axicon barcode verifiers automatically adjust the sampling area (referred to by different aperture reference numbers) required to do this.

axicon 15500 verifier range

Description

The Axicon 15000 series verifiers have been designed to read both two-dimensional and linear barcodes. The system uses a special array of LEDs and a CCD-based sensor to capture each barcode image before it is analysed.  It is able to verify multiple barcodes in the same field of view, whether they are 2D or linear codes, and the user sees the results for each barcode by selecting the relevant barcode on the screen.

QR Code, GS1 QR Code, Data Matrix and GS1 DataMatrix symbols can all be verified, as can any EAN/UPC, ITF-14, GS1-128, Code 128, or Code 39 symbol

The Axicon 15000 series verifiers are powered solely from the USB2 port of a computer, so it is portable when used with a laptop computer.

Axicon 7000 series

Description

The Axicon 7015 barcode verifier is designed to verify large linear barcodes with a maximum width (including quiet zones) of 195 mm. This means it can be used to check all barcodes used in general distribution, whether they appear on outer cases or on pallet labels (EAN-13, UPC-A, ITF-14 and GS1-128).  For anyone printing 100% sized ITF-14 symbols, or A5 or larger pallet labels, this verifier is perfect.

The ‘S’ range of Axicon verifiers (7025-S) has a continuous scan feature, which means that obtaining at least ten different readings throughout the height of the barcode (as required by ISO/IEC) is much faster. Simply place the verifier slightly above or below the barcode, press the trigger and slide the verifier over the code – in less than a second you can have results of up to 100 scans of the code at different points in the bar height.

Features & Benefits

ISO/IEC verification with ANSI option, traditional verification, symbology auto-discrimination, automatic variable aperture, scan saving and loading, static reflectance meter, display of x-dimension and magnification, individual bar and space dimensional analysis.  Product look-up option and other software plugins are available to validate data content of codes such as PZN, CIP, ISBN, ISSN.

axicon 6515 verifier

Description

The Axicon 6515 barcode verifier is designed to verify linear barcodes with a maximum width, including quiet zones, of 125 mm.  This means it can be used to check all GS1 symbols used at the retail point-of-sale (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and UPC-E, GS1 Databar), those used on outer cases (EAN-13, ITF-14, and GS1-128), and on logistics labels (GS1-128).  For anyone printing barcode labels using a 100 mm (4 inch) wide printhead, this verifier is perfect.

It cannot be used to check 100% sized ITF-14 symbols, or A5 sized logistics labels printed using a 150 mm (6 inch) wide printhead.

The ‘S’ range of Axicon verifiers (6525-S) has a continuous scan feature, which means that obtaining at least ten different readings throughout the height of the barcode (as required by ISO/IEC) is much faster. Simply place the verifier slightly above or below the barcode, press the trigger and slide the verifier over the code – in less than a second you can have results of up to 100 scans of the code at different points in the bar height.

axicon series 6000

Description

The Axicon 6000 series barcode verifiers are designed to verify small linear barcodes (with a maximum length, including quiet zones, of 66 mm) typically used on products scanned at the retail point-of-sale, or pharmaceutical products scanned at the point-of-care. These barcodes include EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 39, Code 128, HIBC, GS1 DataBar, GS1-128, CIP 39 and Laetus Pharmacode*. This verifier is perfect for product manufacturers, label printers, printers and packagers, and pre-press studios.

The ‘S’ range of Axicon verifiers (6025-S) has a continuous scan feature, which means that obtaining at least ten different readings throughout the height of the barcode (as required by ISO/IEC) is much faster. Simply place the verifier slightly above or below the barcode, press the trigger and slide the verifier over the code – in less than a second you can have results of up to 100 scans of the code at different points in the bar height.

Portable verification

axicon pv-1000 portable

Description

PV-range

The PV-1000 unit can be used with any of the following linear barcode verifiers – the 6015, 6515 and 7015 – and it allows you to carry out verification without any connection to a laptop or PC.  You can see the overall grade for each symbol, as well as the values for individual parameters while you are using it.  The PV-1000 will also keep all your results as text or Axicon’s .scn files which you can transfer to your PC using a USB memory stick.  This means the results can be recorded as part of any quality control system.

The PV-1072 is the simplest Axicon verifier for point-of-sale barcodes, and is fully portable.  It is powered by its own display and data collection unit which runs on four AA batteries.  Rechargeable batteries can be supplied with a charger if they are required.  A protective rubber cover for the data collection unit is also available.

It can be used to verify all retail point-of-sale barcodes (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A UPC-E and GS1 Databar), as well as pharmaceutical product barcodes (such as CIP 39, Italian pharmacode, HIBCC, and Code 128).  The scan width of the reader is 66 mm.

It enables you to save or print simple text files that provide a summary of each barcode’s verification.  The saved text files can be transferred to a PC using a USB memory stick for subsequent printing, or printed out to a serial (RS232) printer.

axicon android application

Description

An Android app that allows Axicon barcode verifiers to be used on the move with either Android tablets or Android smartphones is now available from Google Play.

Free to use, this app allows anyone with an Axicon 6000, 6500 or 7000 series verifier to use it with an Android device, and record the results as easily as with a PC or laptop. The app can also be used to open the saved scan files, whichever linear barcode verifier has been used to create them.

The new app gives our linear verifier users extra functionality, as they don’t need to use a PC or laptop to power the verifier. If it is easier to take the verifier to the product to check the barcode, then using the app with a tablet or smartphone makes this very straightforward.

Most users will need to use a USB OTG (on the go) adapter for their device, and they will need to check which one they require to connect to the verifier.

The app software is based upon the Axicon PC verifier software, so the results of the verification are displayed equally clearly, with the ISO/IEC grade together with details of the individual parameters.  The saved scan files records can be transferred to a PC and form the basis of any quality control system.
